The School Planning and Architecture, Mysore was established in the year 2016 under the Statues of the University of Mysore (establishing the School of Planning and Architecture -Amendment) Statutes 2015 with the accent of the Chancellor and Governor of Karnataka, Government of Karnataka.

The Urban and Regional Planning and Architecture should co-exists to carry out the Planning and Architecture to meet the needs of the citizen of the Country. In almost all foreign Universities and also Indian Universities, the Planning and Architecture are treated as co-existing for the purpose of academic and research activities. It was felt necessary to attach the Urban and Regional Planning section existing in the Institute of Development Studies, which was established under the Ford Foundation Assistance in 1971 with. The University School of Design (USD) which was established in 2002 (USD) was established in the year 2002. There are two Departments in the School of Planning and Architecture namely Department of Planning and Department of Architecture,

The Department of Planning offers the following courses and research

  • Bachelor Degree in Planning /Bachelor of Technology in Planning : B.Plan/B.Tech Plan : 4 years eight semester course
  • M.Tech in Urban and Regional Planning Course : 2 years four semester course
  • Ph. D in Urban and Regional Planning (3 to 7 years )

The Department of Architecture offers the following courses

  • Bachelor of Architecture ( B.Arch Five years, ten semesters course
  • Master of Architecture ( two years, four semester)

Facilities of the School

The School started functioning in a newly built School of Planning Architecture Building which is strategically located within the University of Mysore Campus. The SPA campus is situated in a 15-acres land with a built-up area of 84,000 sq.ft. with state-of-the-art facilities. The building houses 18 studio-cum-lecture halls of international standard; library, computer lab (with all required software and Wi-Fi facilities for the entire School) 350-capacity Auditorium; 1500- capacity amphitheatre; individual faculty rooms; in-house stationery shop; cafe & canteen facilities and sports & games.
